Hosted by news anchor Joe Birch, the news program features various Mid-South medical and health experts discussing the latest health news and services available in the area.
The number of women giving birth by caesarean, or C-section, is on the rise. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 28 percent of American women gave birth by caesarean delivery in 2003. That’s up from 23 percent in 1990. A C-section is major surgery with more risks than a vaginal delivery. In this month’s cover story, Rod Starns takes a look at when a C-section is necessary and what is means for mother and child.
