Hosted by news anchor Joe Birch, the news program features various Mid-South medical and health experts discussing the latest health news and services available in the area.

BUTTERSCOTCH BROWNIES

Good butterscotch flavor. If you don’t want so much butterscotch, use a light brown sugar or a brown sugar/granulated sugar blend.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 20-25 minutes
Serves 16
Each serving: Calories 89; Sodium 61 milligrams; Fat 1.5 grams; Carbohydrate 18 grams; Cholesterol 0 millgrams; Fiber 0 grams; Protein 1 gram.

Ingredients:
Vegetable oil spray
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
2 tablespoon acceptable stick margarine
Egg substitute equivalent to 1 egg or 1 large egg
2 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray an 8-inch square baking pan with vegetable spray.
2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the brown sugar and margarine with an electric mixer on medium-high speed.
3. Add the egg substitute, applesauce, butter flavoring, and vanilla. Beat on medium until smooth.
4. In a small bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder. Stir into the brown sugar mixture. Spread in the baking pan.
5. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Let cool slightly and cut into 16 bars.
